Not only will you see savings on your electric bills, but you can also earn rewards for managing how you use your energy. This helps you do everything you want to do while paying less to the utility companies. You can then use the points you earn to unlock deep discounts on products you love!

Note: If you're a current solar customer, you don't need to connect your utility, your energy is tracked automatically. If you do not have consumption data or you're a non-solar customer, click here for connection instructions.

Your energy budget

On the first tab of your Palmetto app, you'll see a dial displaying your weekly energy budget. This budget is your personalized target for energy consumption or export.

Your goal is simple:

• If you're an energy importer - your goal is to stay within your budget.
• If you're an energy exporter - your goal is to export more than your target.

Achieve your goal, and you'll earn points! These points can then be redeemed for discounts on helpful energy products and services in our in-app store.

Earning points

Earning Points: You earn base points for meeting your weekly budget. You can also earn bonus points by exceeding your targets in positive ways, such as exporting more solar energy or having reserve energy left over from your budget. If you go significantly over your budget, you won't earn points for that particular week.

Your weekly energy budget is measured in kWh and customized based on your historical usage. Depending on whether your home usually draws energy from the grid or sends energy back, you'll be placed on one of two energy tracks:

1. Energy importers (use more energy than you produce)

Your budget is based on your past consumption. To give you a helpful buffer, we add an extra 20% called your "reserve."

• Example: If your home used 100 kWh last week, your budget for this week is 100 kWh, and you'll have an additional 20 kWh as your "reserve" for a total of 120kWh that can be used before you earn 0 points for the week.

• Earning Points:

  • You can earn up 100 base points per week
  • Stay within your budget = You'll earn all 100 base points
  • Dip into your reserve = You'll lose base points in increments of 5
  • Each 1% of your reserve used reduces your base points by 5
  • Go over your budget= Earn 0 points for the week
  • Bonus points: If you stay well under your budget and have reserve energy remaining, you can earn up to 200 bonus points!
  • Become a Net Exporter: If you were budgeted to import but actually exported energy, you'll earn a significant 300 bonus points because you met your budget with 100% of your reserve remaining!

Don't worry, you can't lose points you've already earned!

2. Energy exporters (produce more energy than you use)

Your budget is based on your past energy exports.

• Example: If you exported 100 kWh last week, your budget for this week is to export 100 kWh.

• Earning Points:

  • Export up to 100% of your target: You'll earn base points (one point for every percentage up to 100%).
  • Exceed 100% of your export target: You'll earn bonus points (up to 200).

Your weekly summary

At the end of each week, you'll receive a helpful summary in your app, showing you:

• Total energy used vs. your budget.
• Total points earned for the week.
• Badges unlocked for achieving specific energy goals.
• Personalized insights to help you understand your energy patterns, such as:
  • Your total consumption compared to the previous week.
  • Your highest consumption day.
  • Your highest consumption hour.
  • The average highest consumption time of day during the week (a 3-hour window).

These insights are designed to help you pinpoint when and why you use the most energy, empowering you to make smarter choices.

How to redeem points

Redeeming Points: Your earned points can be redeemed for discounts on energy-related products and services directly in our In-App Store. Points are not equivalent to cash and cannot be refunded once redeemed.

1. Click Redeem on an offer.
2. You may be sent to a partner's website or provided with a coupon code.
3. Important: Once points are redeemed, they cannot be refunded. Please be sure to confirm your redemption before proceeding. You might see a double-confirmation step (e.g., Redeem → Confirm → Redeem on the partner page).

More ways to earn (new!)

You can now earn extra points every single day by answering our in-app Daily Trivia question or reading interesting articles in our Learn center.

Daily trivia

When you access the Energy tab, you'll see a daily trivia question. If you answer correctly, the points will instantly be added to your rewards balance. The trivia question refreshes every 24 hours, so be sure to check in daily for a new opportunity to earn!

You can also earn points by visiting the Learn tab to stay informed and explore the latest clean energy news. Simply read an article to start earning points!
